This is a terrific opportunity to learn about education policy and the workings of our state government. We meet some of the fine volunteers who serve as advocates at the capitol on behalf of PTA. We get firsthand impressions of our elected representatives. Best of all, we spend two days surrounded by other advocates for children — interested, informed PTA members.

Basic Policies:

  • Attendees must be current PTA members
  • Attendees must be voted as representatives by a PTA unit or council
  • Attendees must be at least 18 years old or accompanied by a parent
  • Participation is limited to 90 people, first come, first served

Before you register:

Your unit or council must vote to appoint you as its representative on this trip. Sample motion: "I move that Remus Lupin represent Moonlight Council PTA at Sacramento Safari 2008 at a cost not to exceed $525." A unit or council may send more than one representative.

New Policies for Sacramento Safari

The following new policies for Sacramento Safari were approved by Fourth District PTA at the Sept. 20 general meeting:

1. The trip will be limited to 90 participants. Paid registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis when registration starts in January.
2. Each participant must be an elected representative of a PTA unit, council, or district. Units and councils should schedule a vote on their representative(s) to Sacramento Safari before January.
3. Student participants must be 18 years old or accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The Fourth District PTA Advocacy Committee believes that these policies will provide the best experience possible for all of the participants, while assuring that the PTA members speak with a unified voice. The policies also resolve potential liability and insurance issues.
