Convention
is Almost Here!
Hey, convention delegates! The California State PTA Convention is on the horizon!
Registration is available through April 17 online at www.capta.org, or through regular mail and fax. After April 17, you may register at the convention. Registration fees are non-refundable, but editing your registration with a different delegate name or workshop preference is a breeze.
The Fourth District PTA Delegate Orientation and Open House will be held April 24 at the Fourth District Office. This is a new format. Convention stations and Fourth District PTA Convention Committee members will be available to answer all questions. Come and get to know us, and our new office.
Open House hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. All delegates – especially first-time convention attendees – are encouraged to attend.
Fourth District PTA is offering five $200 Leadership Scholarships for convention attendance, thanks to funding from California State PTA. The application is available on the Fourth District PTA website, www.fourthdistrictpta.org, and is due in the office by April 7 (see sidebar above).
Don’t miss out on a chance to play the Patty Christiansen Trivia Game at the Fourth District PTA Hospitality Suite in the Hyatt Hotel. The suite will be open 9 to 11 p.m., Thursday and Friday evening.
“Under the Sea,” our Fourth District PTA dinner, will be held Saturday, May 3, immediately following the fifth general meeting. The cost is $40 for this festive event, to be held at the Convention Center in the Seaside Ballroom. It promises to be a wacky and wild night. Among Convention Committee members, fish costume planning is in full swing. Members of each council will share a short song about what makes their PTA unique. Plan to wear our Fourth District PTA tropical shirt along with any fish theme adornments.
The reservation deadline for the dinner is April 17, with some possible seating available through April 28, if space exists, at the price of $50. The reservation form is available on the Web site (see link above).
The dinner is open to everyone, so join us, even if you are not attending convention!
The Fourth District PTA Convention Committee is dedicated to making this your best convention ever!
March 2008
Time to Register for the California State PTA Convention
All PTA units and councils should be planning to attend one of the most important and exciting events of the PTA year — the California State PTA Convention.
The first step is to look through the Convention Registration booklet, which every PTA president should have received.
Convention registration is now available online. This new and improved process is the easiest way to register. Follow the links on www.capta.org. You will be able to choose workshops, and you will receive a personal password to review your choices and make changes if needed. A confirmation letter will be emailed upon registration. A credit card is required to register online, but delegates can use the confirmation letter to receive reimbursement from their PTA.
The other registration method is through the mail using the forms in the Convention Registration booklet. A PTA or personal check can accompany registration.
Delegates will also need to register with Fourth District PTA to pay the district fee of $28. The District Delegate Form is available on our website, and a separate check, made out to Fourth District PTA, must be mailed to the District Office.
Our Fourth District PTA Dinner on Saturday, May 3, will be held at the Long Beach Convention Center and is themed “Under the Sea.” The cost of the dinner is $40 and is a legitimate PTA expense. Besides enjoying the fun and networking, you HAVE to come to see our costumes! A registration form is available here on the Web site.
Hotel reservations are made through the Long Beach Convention Visitors Bureau. Forms and hotel information are also in the Convention Booklet. FAX is the best way to make reservations. Fourth District PTA is staying at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach, the official site of the convention.
Thank you to all council convention chairs in advance for your contribution of time and effort on behalf of our state, county, and local PTAs.
February 2008
Splash Your Way to Long Beach!
By now, unit presidents should have received their Convention
Packet from California State PTA and passed it on to their convention
chairs. Convention adrenaline should be starting to surge in unit delegates.
Convention Registration
For the second year, registration is available through a user-friendly
online process (payment by credit card only), in addition to fax and
regular mail. Advance registration for all delegates is available February 4
through April 17. Online registration is our recommendation! After
registering, if the delegate cannot attend, it is an easy process to transfer
the registration to a new name.
Lodging Reservations
Housing reservations can be made February 4 through April 1
through the Long Beach Convention Visitors Bureau by mail or fax. No
telephone reservations will be accepted. The Hyatt Regency Long
Beach is the official PTA hotel, and the Fourth District Hospitality
Suite will be at the Hyatt, but there are plenty of choices. Reserve early!
Join Us "Under the Sea"
Fourth District PTA will hold its dinner on Saturday, May 3, at the
Convention Center. It will be a hilarious spin of the theme “Under the
Sea.” The cost is $40 per person for this unforgettable event.
Each unit should plan to send delegates to an inspiring four days of
convention, where our voices can be heard for all children in California.
If funding is an issue, please for scholarship opportunities.
October, 2007
The California State PTA Convention offers you an opportunity to invest in the success of your PTA!
Meet PTA members from around the state as you attend officer trainings and workshops on timely topics involving children and education.
Attend exciting general sessions with outstanding nationally-known speakers and performances by our state Reflections winners. You will learn more about the important work of PTA and join with thousands of other PTA members in making important decisions about the future direction of PTA. There are also opportunities to sample the offerings of hundreds of fundraising companies in the Exhibition Hall. Network with other Orange County parents and have a fun evening at the Fourth District PTA dinner.
The PTA convention is an experience like no other. You will be educated, energized, and inspired!
Since this year the convention takes place in Long Beach, travel expenses are minimal. You can send delegates for just one day, but to experience the convention fully, plan to have representatives stay in Long Beach for the entire event.
